The Edgewood Bulldogs have been a team on a mission in recent weeks, chalking up wins at an impressive clip against quality opponents including Canton, Van and Farmersville.
That trend continued last week as Edgewood closed out 2020 with an impressive rout of North Hopkins before welcoming in the new year with a hard-fought triumph over Commerce in District 12-3A play.
The Bulldogs took part in their final non-district contest of the season Jan. 31, routing North Hopkins 66-47.
Edgewood did most of its damage in the opening half against the Panthers, taking an 18-13 lead after one quarter before surging in front 36-19 at halftime.
After North Hopkins narrowed the margin down to 14 points entering the fourth, Edgewood slammed the door on any attempted comeback bid with a 19-14 run over the game’s final eight minutes.
Edgewood tallied one of its most impressive wins of the season two days later, defending their home court with a 75-68 win over the visiting Commerce Tigers.
Due to the recent holiday, game details of the Edgewood-Commerce showdown were not immediately available as of press time.
Edgewood, now 2-0 in District 12-3A play, was slated to host the rival Grand Saline Indians Jan. 8 and Prairiland Jan. 12 before returning to the road for a showdown with the Rains Wildcats Jan. 15. Other upcoming dates will include home dates against Paris Chisum Jan. 19 and Lone Oak Jan. 22.
